Personal
I am married with four adult children - two in Canberra and
two in Sydney.
I set out to be an electrical engineer, but got bitten
by the computer bug at an early stage and have never quite recovered. I
was the first PhD student supervised by John Bennett, who was Australia's
first Computing professor, at Sydney University. So I have been around
for, well, quite some time. For more information see my Resumé.
My interests include:
-
My family, church and home
-
Music - classical and jazz - both as a listener and a player
(violin)
-
Reading including Umberto Eco, Peter Carey, Jung Chang, Ruth
Rendell, Amy Tam, Tim Winton and others.
-
Programming techniques and algorithms
-
Electronic commerce, EDI
-
The travelling salesman problem and
related combinatorial problems
