“The Perfect Solution … !”

14/08/2006

Sir,

The Prime Minister told us today, of his disappointment at the failure of his Immigration Act amendments in the Senate.  The amendments would have made Australia's immigration rules, "already among the toughest in the world", become "even tougher" in order to appease our lovely neighbours to the North.  I'm sure that they share Mr. Howard's disappointment.

But wait ... there’s still hope!  What if Indonesia were to warmly welcome all asylum seekers fleeing political persecution in Australia?  Surely this would elevate Indonesia's moral status and cause Australia considerable embarrassment internationally.  It would serve us right for our granting of asylum to those who make such a nuisance of themselves by pretending to be in jeopardy in West Irian.

Yours faithfully,

Robert James,

Watson ACT 2602
