The Sisters of Mercy were the second congregation of religious women to come to Australia and had been invited to come to the struggling colony of Perth by its newly appointed bishop, John Brady. The group, led by Mother Ursula Frayne and consisting of three professed sisters, three novices and one postulant, arrived in 1846.
