Hint: This site is intended as a search aid - not a definitive source. It is essentially an index to documents that seem to relate to this person plus a very brief precis of relevant elements. Sources often conflict and I also flag things with a ? when I am unsure. So if the information below is important to you, then please check the original sources to see what else they contain (and in case I have inadvertantly introduced transcription and/or precising errors). There can be additional information that was not included in the database for both space and copyright reasons.

Extracts and Comments (from Sources as shown) | | Murray: Medical Staff. URL1: sailed for Eng. 22.4.1902 aboard the 'Sicilia' on passage home. URL2: RETURNED SOLDIERS RE-UNION. SOCIAL ON SATURDAY EVENING. A FAIR GATHERING. The first re-union in Bunbury of men who served with the various Western Australian contingents in South Africa was held on Saturday evening [29.8.1903] in the form of an enjoyable smoke social at the Cricketers' Arms Hotel. The gathering was representative of the whole district, but the attendance was much smaller than had been looked forward to, only totalling with those invited about forty. The chair was taken by Major WOODROW, of the Bunbury Rifles, while Captain MOORE, of the South-West Mounted Infantry, and Captain FLYNN, who went with the Fifth Contingent as medical officer, and WH TIMPERLEY RM, were among those present. The gathering was promoted by Sergt. F BROWN (as secretary) and Private JS TEEDE (as treasurer). URL3: OUR RETURNED WARRIORS. RE-UNION IN BUNBURY. Since the conclusion of the war in South Africa an interesting institution which has been introduced are re-unions of returned soldiers, which are held regularly at intervals. The first gathering of this description in Bunbury was held at the Cricketers' Arms Hotel on Saturday night [29.8.1903]. The South-West contributed a liberal quota towards the contingents from this State which went to the assistance of the Mother Country in South Africa, and of these plucky British lads a fairly representative gathering participated in the smoke social on Saturday night. Mr. SHAW, who himself is a returned soldier, had been at no small pains in making the arrange ments as complete as possible, and. the dining hall in which the gathering took place, which was decorated with flags and the tables tastefully laid out with all kinds of refreshments presented a very cosy appearance, Major WOODROW, of the Bunbury Rifle Volunteers, presided, and sitting with him at the cross table was Captain MOORE, of the South-West Mounted Rifles, Mr. TIMPERLEY RM and Dr. FLYNN, who served with the West Australians during the war. URL4: Two officers who served in South Africa under Major DARLING, and who have embarked for England, are Captain Surgeon FLYNN and Lieut. Cottingham GRIFFITHS.

Apology: For some time now it has been difficult to keep up with the newly available sources (especially the Trove newspaper site) plus the flow of contributions and queries. So I have been forced to prioritise maintenance and data entry over replying to correspondence. Nevertheless, your contributions are being added to the database and acknowledged on the contributions page and, although my replies are many months behind, I will attempt to get to them more often.
