Oberlindes Lines

Logo of Oberlindes LinesOberlindes Lines is an interface line trading between the Imperium in the Spinward Marches and the Vargr in neighbouring Gvurrdon . It is a major shipping company in the Regina subsector ( Spinward Marches ).

The Oberlindes name is an old one in the trade and commerce business in the Marches. Roxanne Oberlindes established the first line to bear the name in 487, and built up a large family business from a free trader operation. The company thrived between each of the several wars which have wracked the Marches in the past half-millenium.

The first major increase in Oberlindes' size came in 1049 with the acquisition of the Emissary, a Azhanti High Lightning-class frontier cruiser declared surplus by the Imperial Navy. This ship, armaments intact, served as the flagship for Oberlindes' excusions into the Vargr Extents on trade expeditions; the venture proved highly successful. A base was established just beyond the Imperial border (some irregularities in the ship transfer made it impractical to bring the ship into the Imperium) and served as a clearing house for trade good shipments between Regina ( Regina / Spinward Marches 1910) and the Vargr worlds.

Following the Fourth Frontier War, the company obtained an Imperial charter (1084) and naval surplus transports. They used them to provide extensive cargo service in the Regina subsector, concentrating on the smaller feeder routes. This proved to be most lucrative, as worlds cut off by the fighting had a high demand for trade goods. At the same time, Oberlindes expanded into trade with the Vargr just beyond the Imperial border, and has become a major importer of Vargr products and goods.

More recently, the line has expanded into main line service, in direct competition with Tukera Lines and other established major shipping lines. Expansion into neighbouring subsectors has improved interstellar service for travellers, but has alienated many of the older and more conservative lines.

Marc hault-Oberlindes , patriarch and controller of the line, was awarded a baronial patent, complete with estates on Feri ( Regina / Spinward Marches 2005), by direction of the Emperor in 1101. The patent was in recognition of his contribution to economic recovery in the Marches following the Fourth Frontier War. His heir apparent is his son, Sergei hault-Oberlindes . Sergei was recently (1105) rescued from imprisonment on Ruie ( Regina / Spinward Marches 1809).
