Livestock

Includes riding beasts (possibly bred for racing), food animals, or even exotic and rare animals.

Roll (1D) Livestock Type Price (Cr)
1-2 Riding Beasts 2D x (1000 + weight in kg)
3-5 Food Animals 3D x (400 + weight in kg)
6 Exotic Animals 1D x (10,000 + weight in kg)

Generate specific animals for the current world using standard Traveller animal generation rules (Book 3, MegaTraveller Referee's Manual, etc) or pick an animal from Supplement 2: Animal Encounters. Alternatively, the referee may decide this is the time to throw in an animal from one of the many Bestiary articles from Traveller magazines! In this case, the referee must decide on what Livestock Type the animal is: riding, food, or exotic. Most animals used as pets would be classified as exotic.

Amphibious and aquatic creatures will need special handling, as may some others. Often a local animal handler will need to accompany the animals as supercargo.

Size will determine how many animals can be shipped; generally about 200 kg of animals per displacement ton can be accommodated. Food is also required. Allow 3% of body weight per day for food, e.g. a 1000 kg animal requires 30 kg of food per day = 210 kg for a week. Water may be required, although resupply is not as much of a problem as it is recycled. Exceptionally large animals may require extra water to be carried.
