Special Handling Notes
- Meat
- Requires refrigeration of hold or container. A power failure will cause spoilage after 2-12 hours (roll 2D), making the meat unsaleable.
- Vegetables
- Require refrigeration in narrow temperature ranges. Will spoil after 1-3 days (roll 1D/2) if power fails, making them unsaleable. Fresh vegetables (5-6 on 1D) can only be stored for 2 weeks, even with refrigeration.
- Fruit
- Requires similar treatment to vegetables. May require more exact temperature control. Will spoil after 2-12 days (roll 2D) without such controls. Fresh fruit (5-6 on 1D) may only be stored for 3 weeks in any event.
- Grain
- Shipped in bulk cargo containers (modified standard cargo containers, 54 kl, 4 displ. tons) or in devoted grain carriers, requiring protective linings and so forth. Grain dust is explosive and cargo hold should be continually filtered to guard against a potential explosion.
Requires protection from sparks, heat and shock. Roll 14+ on 2D for an explosion to occur during loading/shipment; DM + 2 if starport temperatures are over 30°C; DM + 6 if ship is hit by enemy fire; DM + 8 if from an energy weapon. Inflict one Internal Explosion (roll 1D, 1-4) or one Critical Hit (5-6) if an explosion ensues.
