5-6 Exotic (any) 1D x (10,000 + weight in kg)

Generate specific animals for the current world using standard Traveller animal generation rules (Book 3, MegaTraveller Referee's Manual, etc) or pick an animal from Supplement 2: Animal Encounters. Alternatively, the referee may decide this is the time to throw in an animal from one of the many Bestiary articles from Traveller magazines! In this case, the referee must decide whether the the animal is a standard herbivore or is more exotic. Most animals used as pets would be classified as exotic.

The animals are shipped in bulk marine holding tanks, ranging in size from 1 to 4 displacement tons. These require protection from being punctured; roll 12+ on 2D for a leak to occur during loading/shipment; DM + 4 if ship is hit by enemy fire. If 16 is rolled, the entire container shatters, which will usually kill the contents. Imaginative referees may create other possibilities.

Amphibious and aquatic creatures will need special handling, as may some others. Often a local animal handler will need to accompany the animals as supercargo.

Size will determine how many animals can be shipped; generally about 100 kg of animals per kilolitre can be accommodated, but see the bulk tanks for their true holding capacities. Food is also required. Allow 3% of body weight per day for food, e.g. a 1000 kg animal requires 30 kg of food per day, which equals 210 kg for a week.
