Here are some photos of my diving this year. I went with Cairns Dive Centre (CDC) again this year as I had such a great time in 2001 with them. they have a new Catamaran which was fantabulous.
The crew were fun, the visitors were fun, and the diving was great! I recommend CDC to anyone who wants a fun time and great diving. This year I went for four days and three nights which cost around $550 and included all food and diving equipment. I had 11 daytime dives and 3 night dives again which was great. We mainly dove at Thetford reef which had some good swim throughs and coral faces. Milne reef was also good and had lots of shallow dives which made dives longer of course!
Here are a few of the pictures I took whilst I was away
I stayed at the Travellers Oasis in Cairns, a fantastic place run by a guy called Mark who was very friendly and helpful. It's my second time staying there and I can recommend it as one of the better backpackers holiday places to stay. (photo diving 1)
First night aboard the Kangaroo Explorer after our night dive we had a few beers to celebrate. Seven different countries are represented here. (photo diving 2)
A lot of people learn to dive whilst at the Barrier Reef like the group below. The water was beautiful blue and very enticing at 27 degrees Celcius/Centigrade. (photo 4)
We had to get up around 530 for our first dive of the day but did get to see some beautiful sunrises like the one below. The best dive was always the first one of the day as the sun slowly came up. (photo 4)
A shot of the Kangaroo Explorer my home for 4 days. (photo 5)
The sunsets weren't too bad either out on the reef as you can see. (photo 6)
This is what the reefs typically look like from above. You can see the swim throughs quite clearly on the left side. (photo 7)
This is my favourite picture which I had blown up to poster size from the original 2 Megapixel file. I had it printed at the local photo shop and it really shows the colours of the reef. (photo 8)
Pedro from Brazil, Urs from Switzerland and Dave from Australia sampling the ales again after our night dive. (photo 9)
More of friends I met whilst diving. Note who had finished diving for the day and was going home.....bugga! they could drink and we couldn't. (photo 10)
Susanne, one of my dive buddies was also staying at the Traveller's Oasis and is back in Germany now and experiencing weather a lot colder than she is here in this photo at Cairns. (photo 11)
Photos diving 21 to 34 were taken using a disposable underwater camera, then scanned to get onto the web.
I met so many wonderful people on the dive trip and can recommend it to anyone who is thinking of learning to dive. CDC run good courses at very competitive rates. Try it, you'll love it
The Sunkist was the boat that ferried us from the mainland to the Kangaroo Explorer.
Aloha and adieu sigh.......how many days till I go back?????????
