About Gemma
Gemma is a distinguished Australian calligrapher and Civil Marriage Celebrant. Her work has encompassed regular commissions from both the public and private sectors throughout the country. In 1986 Gemma was one of three friends who founded the Canberra Calligraphy Society which today is a strong likeminded group which share a common passion for letters. Gemma's creative journey has seen her study with highly skilled calligraphers worldwide.

Gemma has studied watercolour painting, printmaking and bookbinding and continues to learn and research. She keeps her mind open to the exciting prospect of new calligraphic and allied art experiences.
Awarded a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship in 1991 to research calligraphy in Europe, Gemma continues learning, teaching and producing calligraphic artworks. She was elected a guild member of the Australian Society of Calligraphers in 1993. In 1997 Gemma was elected a CLAS Fellow (the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society, UK) and in 2002 she was further honoured by her peers, electing her to the status of CLAS Honoured Fellow for her contribution to calligraphy worldwide.
Teaching has long been one of Gemma's passions. Her teaching not only concentrates on traditional and contemporary letter forms but includes her other loves of collage, painting, bookbinding and paper & canvas surface decoration. Gemma has been teaching throughout Australia since 1986 and more recently in Canada, the USA and the UK. She welcomes workshop enquiries and is happy to design workshop content specifically for your group as you require it.
