Purlewaugh
From Coonabarabran we then took the
road out to Purlewaugh, going over
Billy Creek and Baby Creek, up MacEvoy's hill and detouring in to
Ulamambri - took a photo of the silo and the
sign..
I stopped to have a look at Vanstone's cattle
yards but they are no
more.
Then to Purlewaugh.
Lot of changes here. There is no woolshed or
tankstand and windmill. The house and yard look quite different.
We took some photos from the front road. The
tennis court has not been maintained. It looks like the cow yard
has been extended into a signficant set of yards. There are trees
growing in the front paddock and the front paddock is now split into at
least one other paddock.
The top gate and drive in is changed with a
fenced in lane down to the
house. The wattle trees on the road up to the top gate have now become
significant. There is a shot of the village from the top gate as well.
We drove down to the S-bend and stopped at the
padlocked gate into the S-bend paddock. It was looking very lush with a
crop of lucerne. The s-bend is not a real s-bend anymore. Photos show
the look towards Grahams from the gate and back towards the Vanstones
and up the hill to the old house as well.
We then drove through the village, taking some
photos of the old
presbyterian church, the supper hall, the hall proper, the boys toilet
(I think),
the postoffice house and the old catholic church. There is another
house there now as well as what would have been Mrs Fullers house and
the store house.
