Ballroom Dancing

Actually started this back in 1990 because some friends were getting married and the bridal party had to learn to dance. I would not have thought that I would still be dancing 17 years later! Was actually a great way of meeting a great bunch of people. I dance competitively as an amateur in the Master 1 category. Am qualified as a level 0 Coach and enjoy teaching.

Tennis

Less of an interest these days though I enjoy the odd hit at the weekend whereas 17 years ago I would have had 6 hits during the week. The decline of tennis coincided with the rise of ballroom dancing. I have been the Treasurer of my club (Forrest Tennis Club) since 1989. The club is situated in Canberra Australia.

I have achieved the full computerization of the Accounting records and developed a computer application to handle the membership and receipting functions of the club. The benefit of doing this was that the book-keeping became simplier. The down side was that more of the work can only be done on the computer that I hold. Sigh.

Actually another factor was that I had recently bought Borland's Delphi 1 and wanted to play around with it. That Delphi 1 program (though with more features) even though Borland is now called CodeGear and have released Delphi 2007.

Qualifications

I have a Bachelor of Business Degree in Accountancy and qualified as a Chartered Accountant. Love to have those little letters after my name though it is a bit odd as I actually work in IT developing corporate systems.

Anyway all I can say about that is Chartered Accountants are not boring... (25 pages deleted here) and Yes, We're all individuals. Well I do like Monty Python.

Work Experience

Mainly work these days with JEE as a Developer-Architect using IBM Rational Tools such as:

with the odd bit of MVS COBOL thrown in where necessary. Actually I have only coded 2 COBOL programs in the last 5 years but still pretty good at it.

Although I have used Delphi since it release, it remains a hobby and I only managed to actually use it at work for about 9 months back in 2000.

Prior to that was heavily involved in MVS 370 Mainframe programming using COBOL, CICS, VSAM and DB2 for some 16 years.

My 4 year stint as an Accountant was with Coopers and Lybrand now Price Waterhouse Coopers.
