The Reel McCoy Film Group

is a not-for-profit community organisation
that since 1990 has been catering for people interested in movies,
particularly those who would like to see timeless classics and overlooked gems
at low cost.

When Reel McCoy started up in June 1990 (as the ACT Film Society), screenings were at the Center Cinema in Civic, inaugurated by the Marx Brothers' "Duck Soup".

Within months the venue was changed to the small theatrette in the NFSA/ScreenSound building on McCoy Cct in Acton (nice pun? McCoy - and film REELs ?).

RMcC resided in that theatrette until 2005 when, because renovations were being undertaken, the venue removed to the meeting/Board room at NFSA.

In February 2009, the venue was again removed, to the Theatre at the National Library of Australia, Parkes Pl, Parkes.

In 2015, the Society increased the number of screenings per month, and spread the programme over two venues:

On the second and last Sunday each month,
starting at 1:00pm,
at Canberra Museum & Gallery,
London Cct Civic,
in conjunction with Big House Film Society.

On the third Wednesday each month,
starting at 6:00pm,
in the National Library of Australia Theatrette,
Parkes Pl Parkes,
in conjunction with Friends of the NLA.

(If you arrive early, you might have time to visit the latest exhibition presented by CMAG or the NLA.)

Membership of Reel McCoy Film Group is: $50 pa, or $35 for 6 months, or $20 for 3 months. Membership runs from date of joining.

Membership can be taken up at the door, before a screening.

Past visitors to this page may remember that all programmes from 1990 to 2013 had been published here. Regrettably, that is no longer possible. For recent and upcomings screenings, go to the Reel McCoy website.
