Family names of interest: BISHOP, plus WEST, SMITH, OAKLEY, and GWILLIAM.

I have traced my BISHOP surname back to the villages of Harescombe and Haresfield (about half-way between Gloucester and Stroud) in Gloucestershire. John and Hester BISHOP, my great-great-great-great-great-grandparents, were probably born about 1720-1725, most likely in Gloucestershire. They had 11 known children (although 4 died young) who were baptised at Harescombe between 1747 and 1762.

John BISHOP probably died about 1762 or 1763, as Hester BISHOP, a widow, married a Stephen WEST at Harescombe on 3rd May 1764.

My great-great-great-great-grandparents were Thomas BISHOP, born about 1758, who married Grace SMITH on 3rd Nov 1788 at Haresfield, and they had 9 known children (although 2 died young) who were baptised at Harescombe between 1789 and 1810.

My great-great-great-grandparents were William BISHOP, born about 1799, and Ann HODGES, who married on 24 July 1826 at St. Lawrences, Stroud. Ann, the daughter of George and Prudence (nee CLISSOLD) HODGES, was born about 1798 in Stroud. William and Ann raised their family at Whiteshill, near Stroud.
