Women in Black

They stand tall and still
Peace doves atop black mantle
Eyes open, mouths closed
Feet solid in their vigil

Silence frightens the noisy
Baffles the bully
A smile and a nod
An impenetrable shield

Heads of silver and gunmetal
Rheumy eyes and duck headed stick
Scarves knotted once, twice
To protect the thinning yearworn skin

Age does not weary them
Weather does not hinder them
Nothing is more refreshing
Than a touch of civil disobedience
