Toxins (eg physotstigmine and piperazine)
Drugs (perhaps antihistamines, even marijuana?)
Depression (Bipolar and Unipolar Affective disorders)
Emotional Stress (eg grief)
Stress (particularly chronic)Chronic Fatigue syndrome (M.E.) (This is initially triggered
from the immune system. But if it triggers [develops into] MS
then it would work from the neuroendocrine/chemical system)Lifestyle (Diet/Exercise etc)
[Richard Fisher's question: Is there a Central Nervous system trigger?]
{eg does Adrenoleukodystrophy require a trigger?}Age?
eg Puberty (acting on the neuro-endocrine (chemical) system.eg calcification of the Pineal gland
Could Landry-Barre syndrome be a trigger? (Itself started by a virus or infection or "various systemic and toxic disorders." [Gould's]) eg Anna Woolcott-Feliciano?
Or, other disorders, like Horner's Syndrome, Shy-Drager etc?
We are constantly finding the thing which triggers MS. Whenever there is a relapse the question is: "What caused this to happen?" The answers it seems are many and various. Is Epstein Barr virus in adolescence a trigger, or is it perhaps the ultimate cause?
Perhaps the truth is that given some genetic susceptibility, there may be a number of different causes. Causes that don't necessarily explain the aetiology either. Rex spoke about this. That there isn't a single auto antigen. There does not seem to be a single cause.
But, if we can see what is happening to ourselves and where the triggers might happen, there may be a chance to again interrupt the cycle. for a time.
Viruses trigger an auto immune response perhaps, chemicals (pesticides?) might affect the neuro endocrine balance, stress as well, or is stress acting in the neural area?
