Review by Anni and Jan Wawrzynczak following a recent
Art exhibition:
Jennifer received a Diploma of Excellence, (honorable award) in the 2006
Realtime Juried Online Global Art Annual Awards competition for digital
art. The award is the latest in a lifetime spent making and exhibiting
art, teaching and writing (5 books to date).
"First exhibiting at age 16, Jennifer majored in art at teachers college
and has since taught art to all ages. In 2004 she made her first piece
of digital art using Adobe Photoshop.
'I thought I would see what my next painting would look like by using
the computer and Photoshop as a sketch tool. I was so pleased with the
result that I had it printed onto canvas. I made my second piece in 2005
and now am learning ferociously. I teach full time and am on various committees,
so have to work till the early hours of the morning to get art works made.....sometimes
I work right through the night.'
'For me making an art work is a like a journey. Sometimes I begin with
a completed image in my mind and have all the required skills to execute
it. Sometimes I start with a small kernel of an idea or a desire to draw
a particular object, which requires research or the learning of new skills.
Sometimes my art develops from doodling with pencil or paint.'
Phillips’ digital art is imbued with extraordinary imagery. Her work appears
photographic but results from the manipulation and overlay of shapes,
colours, highlights, shadows and other images created by the artist. Digital
Beginnings is an opportunity for Canberran art lovers to experience the
international award winning work of this established artist in the exciting,
early stages of a new passion."
