2010 Burns NightOn this occasion the supper honouring "The Bard", Robert Burns, was celebrated on Burns birthday, 25 January. As has become usual for Lodge Caledonia of Canberra, tartan was worn by many Lodge members and visitors, and lassies; there were performances by Scottish dancers, and the Australian Federal Police Pipes and Drums -- recently returned from the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

"He lived respected and died regretted" WBro John Sweetman was Master of Lodge Caledonia of Canberra during two years from March 2003 until March 2005. He died suddenly in mid-September 2007 while being treated for cancer. John was well known among Canberra's Freemasons for being one of the two organisers for the Sunday night feeding of Canberra's needy people at the Griffin Centre in Civic by local Lodges. This photo shows John's serious side, but he had a ready sense of humour and a great heart for those who needed assistance. Those who knew John's trade did not begrudge shaking the hand of a true master craftsman. John's professional life was spent with the finer things in life, jewellry and precious metals, working as a 'manufacturing jeweller' in a major Canberra store for many years. At Lodge, his hands were often ingrained with the materials he had been using that day while shaping and burnishing the fine pieces. |

-- 1st Thursday of the month, 7.00pm;
-- Installation: 4th Saturday of March.
Our lodge, like most, is very active in donating to community organisations. In particular:
- Our lodge has, for around 10 years, owned a catering van that has operated at the Royal Canberra Show and various horse shows, etc, that has meant that the lodge has been able to give around $10,000 a year on average to various charities.
- Our lodge supports the regular assistance given to the less fortunate people of Canberra who need assistance to feed themselves. Every Sunday night, a lodge feeds these people at the Civic Centre in Canberra, and Lodge Caledonia of Canberra puts in its share of effort and financial support about every 7 weeks.
- Our lodge supports the volunteer-supported Canberra Masonic Homes at Peace and Holt, ACT, where aged care is available to anyone.
We welcome visitors.
Please see our suggestions for your visit and street directions.
Our meetings conform to the dress code of the UGL of NSW & ACT.
Accordingly, with our obvious Scottish (Caledonian) connections, brethren and visitors are welcome to wear Highland Dress at meetings.
However... You are advised that a previous Most Worshipful Grand Master, MWBro Tony Lauer, declared that a Sgian Dugh (a small ceremonial knife worn in the stocking on the right leg), or a replica, is not to be worn with Scottish Highland Dress at Masonic meetings in this jurisdiction. Brethren with questions on this matter should address them c/o the Grand Secretary, info@uglnsw.freemasonry.org.au
