Exposure Details This is a HaOIIILRGB image with Luminance = Red = Green = Blue = 25 minutes, Hydrogen Alpha = Oxygen III = 200 minutes. All binned 2x2 using Astrodon filters.
Description PLN 283.6+25.3 is not a well known object but it has been named "The Southern Owl Nebula" because of its resemblance to M97 in Ursa Major although it's much fainter at magnitude 17.4 It's about the same size at 3.3 arcminutes and shows similar internal structure to M97. The diameter of the southern owl is about 4 light years and the distance is 3500 light years.
