Description NGC 1097 is a bright barred spiral galaxy that shows quite a lot of detail in the bar.  It is quite large at 8' x 5'and the visual magnitude of 9.3 makes it an easy target for small telescopes.  The interacting small elliptical companion is designated NGC1097A.  NGC 1097 is also a Seyfert galaxy with a very active nucleus and in this enhanced version there are four visible optical jets converging on the nucleus.
