Exposure Details LRGB 240:120:100:120. 100 minutes of Hydrogen Alpha was blended in later.  Astrodon filters were used and all images were unbinned. 
Description This spiral galaxy is fairly large at 5' x 4' but the surface brightness is reasonably low.  The integrated magnitude is 9.4.  The distance is estimated at 10 million parsecs.

NGC 2997 first became widely known to the imaging community when David Malin photographed it with the Anglo Australian Telescope.
