Exposure Details This is a narrowband image with red assigned to NII (180 minutes), green assigned to Hydrogen Alpha (165 minutes) and blue assigned to OIII (210 minutes).  Astrodon series 2 filters used.
Description This huge emission nebula surrounding the unstable star Eta Carina (upper right of centre) is easily visible to the naked eye.  Recent evidence indicates that Eta Carina will become a supernova in the very near future.  Eta Carina is at the heart of a strange little nebula called the Homunculus (little man).
