Description This is part of a well known nebula complex in Carina which was discovered by John Herschel in 1834. The angular size is about 7' x 4' and it's about 9000 light years distant. Other NGC objects in the neighborhood  are NGC 3576, 3582, 3584 and 3586. For convenience, the whole area is often just known as NGC 3576. Also of interest is the nearby NGC 3603 nebula (not in this picture) which although it appears to be related is actually much more distant.
