Paint Shop Pro -- Messages

Below are quite a few unordered messages I’ve read from the Corel Paint Shop Pro news forums. Where known, I have dated the message, and added further information. I use the mail/news reader Agent version 4.1 from Forte Inc. At the moment, there are about 40,000 messages re PSP versions 9 and X, and also from the scripting and photography forums. Beats the heck out of using  Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express! Messages that I've added to this page later than 9 July 2005 will be close to the top of this page.

Bear in mind that some scripts might have been free at date of message posting, but might not be now.

Polkadots

Due to differences in tool settings, a PSP8 version is not yet available.

You can download the script free here... http://www.sheilsoft.com/psp/polkadots.htm

Comments are always welcome.

I've just completed and uploaded a new script, 'Stripper'.

The script gives your images a graphical look by splitting them into
vertical or horizontal strips. User options include Regular and
Staggered edges, Drop Shadow, with a range of 2 to 20 strips. Canvas
colour is determined by current background colour.

Available for PSP8, PSP9 and PSPX.

You can download this free updated version here...http://www.sheilsoft.com/psp/stripper.htm

Panels

FYI I've just uploaded a new script 'Panels'.

The script creates semi-opaque or blurred image panels, for artistic emphasis or as text underlay.

Panel size can be third, quarter or custom percentage of image dimensions. User chooses Left, Right or Both horizontal panels, or Top, Bottom or Both vertical panels. Run script again to create composite custom panels and effects. Other options include use of panel separation lines, line colour, opacity and blur amount.

The script is available for PSP8, PSP9 & PSPX, and can be downloaded free here:

http://www.sheilsoft.com/psp/panels.htm

As always I appreciate any comments.

Folks,

Just to let you know, I've uploaded the final version of this script.

It's available for free download here: http://www.sheilsoft.com/psp/photocorrect.htm

I've tested it with PSP8, 9 and X and all seems OK.

Thanks for your comments and feedback. :)

Raster and Vector Layers

Thanks Tim. I was thinking about the warp tool and having a senior moment.
Since I recently started posting I thought it would be more expedient to post all three in one email. I uninstalled PSP8 and cleared everything out and then reinstalled 8. I like X better because it does not cause me the problems using larger files 12' X 12', 8' X 11,"etc . Also thanks for the link. I had contacted Corel about the 8 problems previously, in fact twice last year, and never received a response. I purchased 8 last year directly from JASC/Corel right before 9 was released. For some reason, I was missed when they sent out info about 9. I like the speed and doesn't mind some changes, in fact I like seeing my subscription was ended. I resigned but now get advertisement instead of my newsletter. I don't mind the new layer style, just want it to stay at the lower right on my screen.

Thanks is not enough for letting me know about the combination of raster and vector layers. I had to use both in making this element. Now I know what to do:

Just getting over a  MM (Major Meltdown) of my hard drive and lost all my PSP 9 and X stuff. I will be posting a lot, so forgive me. All links for scripts will be appreciated especially the one that enlarges by step, and I think there is another by %. Thanks.

Oh dear, lots of sympathy. Major Meltdown is very painful! You didn't keep any copies anywhere else?

Folks,

Seeing as there hasn't been many posts here recently, I thought I'd upload a little script, which adds side text to an image. You can use it to display your signature, studio info, copyright etc.

You can download it free here...

Are there new versions of the Scripting reference and API docs for PSP X? I took a look on the Corel site and couldn't find anything. Thanks, Steve.

PSP 10 scripting API:

ftp://ftp.corel.com/pub/documentation/PSP/pspx_commandapi.zip and information about the Python language at www.python.org

And the latest scripting reference is the PSP 9 one at

http://www.jasc.com/support/kb/articles/psp9components.asp. The API covers the few new things in PSP 10.

Thanks to Joe Fromm, I just finished a multilingual installer for my script pack.

Which means that whatever the language of your PSP install, all the files would be placed where they should be by the automatic installer.

Thanks to all you folks for beta testing this script on many cameras and setups! It's greatly appreciated.

I can now announce the final versions for PSP8 & PSP9 have now been uploaded to my website, and can be downloaded free here...

http://www.sheilsoft.com/psp/exposureexif.htm

Ideal for cataloguing or posting images to forums.

Will display the main important EXIF values required to determine exposure...

Here's a script called DumpExifInfo that comes with the Scripting for Script Authors document available at

http://www.jasc.com/support/customercare/articles/psp9components.asp - it will send the EXIF info to the Script Output palette, from where you can copy and paste it anywhere you'd like. It doesn't include the info in the EXIF Makernote, however, which is where my Canon camera puts the ISO, white balance and some other useful stuff. Anyone know if the Makernote is scriptable?

To close out this script, I've uploaded it to my site for free download here:

http://www.sheilsoft.com/psp/scrapback.htm

I opted to have the default download version set for 'mode1' use, but those in the know can easily edit it for 'mode0'.

Thanks for all your help with this one. :)

Slicer and Dicer

If you really want to go through ink in a short time, and create some interesting wallpaper (no, not on the computer!), here's a script for you.

Essentially, a slicer and dicer, it lets you define the width of a final image in inches... Say, 60 inches or so... computes the vertical to match, or enter 0 inches in width and define the vertical size... And the script figures out how to slice and dice the open image and save it to the original location it came from with incrementing numbers.

So, MyImage.jpg creates MyImage0_0.jpg, MyImage0_1.jpg, MyImage0_2.jpg, etc. until the last... First number is column, second is row.

Although I didn't resize the slices, I did set the PPI value so that the parts are set to print at the defined size of a page. You can change the size of the parts by editing lines 30 to 33, and even change it to metric measurements.

I've also set in a default overlap size of a quarter inch, change it at line 33. This amount of overlap allows me to cut my pages in a paper cutter before I fit and attach all of them into one big print.

As I say, I didn't resize the original, so if you'd like to resize them and clean them up before final printing, that's up to you.

Why did I do this? Well, I've always wanted to do a life size portrait of some people and paste 'em to the wall.

Works best with images that start with a large number of pixels in the image.

Ron Vick. Tangling with the Python.

If you’d like a copy of the script that works from PSP9 and greater, please post me a message teefrew@gmail.com

FYI,

Here's a new fun script that may be of use to photographers and scrapbookers. The script automatically derives the 'kinda' average complementary colour from your image, and creates a picture matte in that colour. You can choose plain or pattern styles, and add some textures.

I was going to allow the user to choose a pattern but, from the default PSP patterns, only a few looked good enough. You could easily edit the script though to add your own pattern to the choice.

I hope you enjoy it!

One Step Photo Fix, and Smart Photo Fix
I'm attaching the original One Step Photo Fix, written by Kris. There never was an equivalent of the 'Smart Photo Fix', since that tool is just a re-packaged form of the Histogram Adjustment, Saturation, simple sharpen, added to Color Balance.

To my knowledge, nobody ever combined that combo of tools into one script, relying instead on applying what was needed.

For example, in X Smart Photo Fix, you can do a slider adjust of Sharpen. In previous versions, you have Fixed Sharpen, Sharpen More, or the adjustable Unsharpen Mask. (most new users don't even recognize that as a sharpen tool. )

Back to OSPF (I've tested this one in X). You can run this one with the Execution Mode set to single step and make adjustments for each step, or set the Execution Mode to Non-stop and let it run to completion. If you determine the settings are always off for your purpose, you can load the script into a text editor and make corrections (be sure to use a Programmer's Editor, to prevent auto Returns from altering the line size. I use a free program 'Context' for my editing, which has language support and color coding.)

Bill, please start with the scripts I suggested before: http://pixelnook.home.comcast.net/Watermarks.htm The above link contains usage instructions as well as a link for downloading the scripts. If the scripts don't do what you want or  you don't know how to use them please ask specifically about that.
You might also want to separately ask people about what are their favorite scripts for visibly watermarking an image.

Bill,
Perhaps you might want to try my script. You can edit the text to suit.

Rgds, Howard - 3 October 2005

Another way to do it is just use the text tool and hit "alt 0169" on the numeric keypad without the quotes to get the copyright symbol.

Hi Bill,
I don't use a script, but I'm sure this technique could be make into a script. I made it into a tube and just put on a new layer.

Focal Blur Selection Script

I never thought of looking inside the script. Here's the author, and his copyright for this script:

 Author: Jack H. Evans,
Copyright: "Yaddah, yaddah, yaddah. Don't steal this code, it's bad for your Karma"

One Step Photo Fix simply runs a sequence of filters from the Adjust menu. Their settings are average ones that do not apply to all photos, nor to all tastes. You can download the equivalent script from

http://www0.jasc.com/pub/en/OneStepPhotoFix.PspScript and edit it to change the settings it uses.

You can also edit it to run interactively when the Toggle Execution Mode button is depressed on the Script toolbar. Then you can change the settings on the fly. Change all occurrences of App.Constants.ExecutionMode.Silent to App.Constants.ExecutionMode.Default.
