Renovations Stage 5

Move wall between kitchen & loungeroom

9 June 2004

The builders arrived promptly at 7.30am. I didn't look till 9am, by which time the wall was already gone! All that remained was the chimney. You can see where the little shrine used to be attached. Solitary chimney; back view Starting to knock the chimney down. They had enormous trouble getting the concrete slab out. Solitary chimney; front view
Dangling light switches for the far end of the lounge room and kitchen. Decisions are going to have to be made about the lighting - without the wall to reflect the light, the expanded room is awfully dim at night. Solitary chimney from the dining room side Quite alarming to see a pile of rubble in the middle of the loungeroom! Chimney rubble!
Quite alarming to see the large brick hole underneath the loungeroom floor - you could hide a person in there! Chimney below floor level Floor all nicely boarded up, with Puzzle living up to her name. The cats are still not entirely happy about the wide open spaces, and seem to be brawling more. Puzzle investigates new floor
Imagine having to look at that, spread all along the outside wall! I don't think so! Absence of wall, viewed from loungeroom I'm looking forward to having the walls painted, I really am. Absence of wall, viewed from kitchen
