Comet 1995 O1 (Hale-Bopp)

Comet Hale-Bopp put on a fine display for N. hemishpere observers. It was less dramatic from the south as it hugged the horizon and had a greatly foreshortened tail. Nevertheless, it was beautiful naked eye comet!


1997 May 9 -  Ilford: South Pacific Star Party.   Cresent moon conveniently behind the cloud. The two bright stars just below the coma are SAO76939 and Iota Tau.


1997 May 27 - Williamsdale: handguided 60sec exposure using a barn-door mount. Brightest star is Betelgeuse. Star just below coma is SAO 94819.


1997 May 31 -  Backyard:  The brightest star is Betelgeuse. The star to the right of the coma is SAO 94977.
