HOLLYWOOD HONOURS EAST TIMORESE FREEDOM FIGHTER
After receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 1996, and a string of other international awards including The Grand Cross of the Order of Freedom from Portugal, and the Gold Medal of the President of Italy, Dr Jose Ramos-Horta will be honoured by Hollywood itself tonight.
In a Gala event attended by more than 10,000 movie stars, producers, directors and journalists, Dr Jose Ramos-Horta will be presented with the Hollywood Humanitarian Award.
“This is certainly a most unique award I will be receiving, which I do accept with honour and pride. It is an opportunity for a very different audience to hear about East Timor.” Dr Ramos-Horta said.
Dr Ramos-Horta will be the guest of honour at the Los Angeles Premiere of the Australian Documentary “The Diplomat”. The documentary by Tom Zubrycki looks at Dr Ramos-Horta’s 24 year fight to free East Timor, and screens on closing night of the Hollywood Film Festival, at the Paramount Theatre.
