UNIFEM in East Timor update

Participation of women as candidates for the elections

By gcorner@helkorn.com

Hi All,

We have made an important update to the East Timor page of the UNIFEM East and South East Asia web site

http://www.unifem-eseasia.org/easttimor/easttimor1.htm

Almost all of the page content has been changed, with the highlight being an all new section about the participation of women as candidates for the 30th August 2001 election, including an assessment of the support they will need to be elected. This section was contributed by the Gender Affairs Unit of UNTAET and updated by our office. It is a great follow up to the section on training of women for politics that appeared in our previous update.  Hopefully we will be able to follow them both with the results of the election in a later release.

Although the elections sections are of pressing importance, UNIFEM continues to work in other ways in East Timor and we have revised almost all the rest of the page to reflect the current state of our activities.
Hope you enjoy the site,

Geoff Corner

Webmaster
