TAPOL: Congratulations
to Arsenio Bano, Minister of Labour
TAPOL is happy and proud to learn that
our good friend Arsenio Bano has been appointed Minister for Labour and
Solidarity in the Second Transitional Government in East Timor, as an Independent.
This is great news. He is holding a post
which we in TAPOL believe to be of crucial significance in protecting the
rights of workers and developing a tradition of solidarity between East
Timor and other peoples in the world.
Arsenio spent several years working here
as TAPOL and we learned to appreciate his fine qualities as an observer
and analyst of events in East Timor and Indonesia. After returning to East
Timor before the end of 1999, he threw himself into working to strengthen
NGOs and civil society, later becoming the executive director of the East
Timor NGO Forum.
We congratulate him on his appointment
and wish him all the best.
