The United Nations
Office in Timor-Leste (UNOTIL)
is a special political mission established by Security Council
resolution 1599 to carry out peace-building activities. UNOTIL
commenced on 20 May 2005 and is mandated for one year until May 19,
2006. UNOTIL will support the capacity development of critical state
institutions, including the National Police (PNTL) in order to
strengthen democratic governance and to help further build peace in
Timor Leste.
U.N. Office in Timor Leste (UNOTIL)
is a smaller scale version of the previous mission U.N. Mission of
Support in East Timor (UNMISET)
