All the wounded were sent back to Middelburg Hospital, and after three weary days in jolting oxen waggons we reached here. One of our number (Archibald MAC), of the 5th, was very badly wounded through the stomach (four shots), and was progressing fairly, but blood poisoning set in through his interfering with the bandage in his delirium, and he died early on Sunday morning. He was buried the same afternoon, being accorded a soldier's funeral. Nine of the Victorians then in camp attended the funeral, which was conducted by a firing party from the 4th Mounted Infantry. ... "Trooper EDINGTON (No 1109) and Trooper LYNTON (No 1466), who have been in this hospital for the past month suffering from enteric fever, are now convalescent and declared out of danger.
