URL6: His Excellency has received a message from South Africa stating that Private AJ BENNIER, of the Sixth Contingent, has died of wounds received in an engagement in the Orange River Colony. The Chief Secretary has forwarded a message of condolence to the deceased soldier's father Mr. August BENNIER, of Mount Gambier. The name was erroneously given as "AJ BENNETT" in "The Advertiser" of Monday. This is the first death which has occurred in the Sixth Contingent. URL7: The Departed Brave. Sunday, 19.9.1909 was a memorable tho' sad day to many who attended the Memorial Service to the soldiers from South Australia who died in South Africa during the Boer War.
