A single man of 21, he lived with his father, Mr. Wm. BOND, at Longwood. His brother, William Henry BOND, was also a member of the Fifth Contingent. Euroa Adv.: The news that several members of the recently-returned Fifth Contingent were coming back to our little township spread widely abroad, and the result was a popular welcome home to Lance-Corp. L MATTHEWS and Privates F BURKE and DODSON. As these soldiers stepped out of the train, they were surrounded by their friends, and in series of handshakes was passed through, congratulations on their safe return being universal. An adjournment was then made to the White Hart Hotel, where the Longwood detachment of the VMI had arranged for a toasting in sundry liquors of the patriotic contingenters. ... Lance-Corporal MATTHEWS and Privates BURKE and DODSON look well. Pte. HALSALL, who was to have returned with them is ill of enteric in the Melbourne hospital, while Capt. CHOMLEY was also unable to attend. Longwood's men have now all reached home fortunately with but Pte. L BOND's exception. Some have gone to the front again so still there is a patriotic tie between the locality and South Africa, which it is to be trusted may not be abruptly or cruelly broken by untoward incidents at the war.
