URL5: THEATRICAL PERSONALITIES. Burt SHEPHERD, the Whip King, who commenced a season at the Tivoli on Saturday, is a Melbourne native, having been born in Collins street. He went to the country at an early age, and by the time he reached manhood he had learned practically all the bush could teach him. He has had a most adventurous career. He acted a scout in the Boer War, and was chief scout for Lord Kitchener during the latter part of the campaign. After that war, he went to Guatemala, where he took a prominent part in one of the regular revolutions.
