Murray: Lance Corporal, wounded at Hartebeestfontein on 16.2.1901.
B5179: born 1876 a farmer from Port Campbell Vic.
URL1: The following, belonging to Lieutenant General Lord Methuen's brigade, were wounded at ... Hartebeetsfontein, Transvaal — Sergeant C VAUGHAN, Privates J JOHNSON and J HESKETH were killed. Dangerously wounded — Private W SMALL. Severely wounded — Colonel N KELLY, gunshot in left thigh; Lieutenant MACE, left shoulder; Lieutenant PARKIN, left thigh and back; Private A LANCASTER. Slightly wounded Private W O'SHEA, Private C WARD. The foregoing belong to the Victorian Bushmen. Severely wounded — Private H TRANOR, New South Wales Bushmen.
URL2: A number of the contingent invalids were admitted to the Melbourne Hospital during the afternoon [12.7.1901]. These included — Privates C WARD, R WARD, J HORE, suffering from measles, Privates Fred. EZZY, Hy. POPPERTON, Tom. HAYES, Jas. FARREN, Albert WHITING, Rupert LOWE, Donald REID, suffering from colds and minor complaints.
URL3: COBDEN - A concert and social were held in the Temperance hall on Friday evening [2.8.1901] in honour of the returned soldiers. The hall was packed to the doors, and many who arrived late had to return home. The president of the Shire of Heytesbury presided. An excellent programme was given, and the following soldiers were each presented with a gold medal by the president on behalf of the residents of Heytesbury - Sergeant FINLAYSON, Corporal HILL, Lance-Corporal WARD, Troopers WOODS and ELLIS. Each soldier suitably responded. Trooper WOODS was presented with a stock-whip by a person whose name was not divulged.
