On Saturday evening [17.2.1900] the School of Arts, Moama, was crowded with friends of three young men - Messrs. A FORTESCUE, J CHANTER and PARR, who are members of the New South Wales Bushmen's Contingent, which sails next Saturday for South Africa. "The Mayor (Alderman WJ MARTIN) presided, and after enthusiastic and patriotic speeches had been made, presented each man with a horse and a medal. They left by the afternoon train to-day for Denliquin en route to Sydney. URL8: Yesterday [7.6.1905] Echuca witnessed the function of the unveiling of the monument, erected on the square in front of the Supreme Court, in commemoration of the soldiers from Echuca and Moama who volunteered and fought in battles of the Queen and the Empire in the South African war. ... One inscription reads "Presented by the residents to the Borough Council to commemorate the services of our citizen soldiers in the South African war, 1899-01."
