Description The Horsehead is probably the best known dark nebula in the sky and a traditional observing challenge.  There is a huge amount of very faint emission nebulosity in this field.  The band of emission nebulosity in which the horsehead is embedded is IC 434.  The dark laned nebulosity above and to the left of Zeta Orionis is NGC 2024 and the reflection nebula above the horsehead is IC 435.
