Description At only 163,000 light years this irregular galaxy looks like a large detached patch of milky way and is visible to the naked eye even in quite light polluted situations.  There are something like 200 listed NGC objects in the LMC and the best known of these is the Tarantula Nebula (NGC 2070) visible to the lower left of centre.  This shot emphasizes the Hydrogen alpha emission line nebulosity by using a 6nm H alpha filter.
