Description NGC 289 is a large low surface brightness galaxy in Sculptor that isn't imaged all that often. It consists of a relatively bright centre and extensive faint spiral arms that extend more than 100,000 light years from the centre. The apparent B magnitude is 11.4 and the distance is about 70 million light years. the apparent size is 3.1 x 2.5 arcminutes.
