Description This object has long been regarded as one of the finest open clusters on the sky and was discovered by Lacaille although it was sir John Herschel who gave it the Jewel Box name.  NGC 4755 is about 10' across and easily visible with binoculars near the star Beta Crucis.  The distance is about 6400 light years.
