A large planet with an extensive atmosphere of hydrogen and hydrogen compounds. Starships fuel themselves by diving into this atmosphere and skimming hydrogen. Many further refine the hydrogen and its compounds, extracting deuterium and discarding the remainder.

Examples of gas giants are Jupiter (Sol 5) in the Terra ( Sol / Solomani Rim 1827) system, and Assiniboia (Lusor 4) in the Regina ( Regina / Spinward Marches 1910) system.
