SCUNA history » Oyez » March 1976
Dear Scunae,
1976 rolls forth and with it another year with the sparkling Alison and myself. Firstly, welcome to all our new members (and the 'oldies'). I hope that Tuesday's rehearsal was sufficient indication of what SCUNA is all about and also that you are being rapidly converted to the choral cause. Now, before we proceed further take out your diaries, pens, pencils, paper, shirt-sleeves etc., and take down the following (please?).
Every Tuesday night starting at 7.30pm (not 8pm as some seem to think) SCUNA REHEARSALS, hopefully followed by coffee.
Saturday 20/3/76 at __ Wickham Crescent, Red Hill (from the mid-afternoon) a barbeque to help Rik A____ celebrate his 21st birthday (BYOG and meat)
Friday evening 9/4/76 to Sunday afternoon 11/4/76, SCUNA REHEARSAL CAMP at.......(?) [handwritten:] MARINGO 80 miles sth of Canberra1
Thursday 22/4/76 and Friday 23/4/76. 10am or 2pm. To sing at the ANU Graduation ceremonies at Canberra Theatre Complex.2
Friday night 23/4/76. Dress Rehearsal for concert at Uni house.
Saturday 24/4/76. Sometime, probably afternoon or evening: SCUNA to participate in the National Eisteddfod at Canberra Theatre.3
Sunday 25/4/76. Uni House. First Term Concert. Choristers to arrive by 7.30pm. (Scarth Room)4
Saturday 8/5/76 till Sunday 23/5/76. Intervarsity in Tasmania. Two concerts (Deloraine and Hobart)5
22/8/76 till 28/8/76 Adelaide Minifest. (SPAM)6
Sometime in the near future Alison is hoping to have an evening (with piano) where old and new members alike may learn (with some degree of accuracy) some old favourites from the SCUNA songbook.
Perhaps even some new ones? I'll keep you posted on that.
Which reminds me... you will of course want to acquire your very own copy of that invaluable volume---the SCUNA Songbook. They are available (for 1.20) from Gillian D_____ who will also happily (almost hysterically) sell you other patriotic trivia such as SCUNA T-shirts (large sizes only at the moment), stickers etc.....
A note for contacting the Society. Our official address is

Alison tends to be somewhat elusive but may be (maybe?) rung at work on 490418 or preferably at home on 475170. I am contactable at Room 132 Garran Hall, and Ms D can be reached at room 203 Garran Hall. Our Treasurer resides at Lennox Huts Room 2. All of the above is for when you want to know something you don't know, for you never know....we might know!!!
Luv
Alison and Robert.
P.S. In regards to certain Erato articles.... If they offended anyone (though God knows how!) I sincerely apologise. I had not realised certain SCUNAE were so sensitive!!!!!7
P.P.S. Chris K_____ is the new Erato correspondent if you wish to have anything published.
P.P.P.S. Hope you all had a luverly 'oliday.
Robert
NOTICE SCUNA Committee Meeting on the 14/3/76. Would all Committee members attend.......please. (room 203 Garran at 7.30)

3The Open Choral Championship in the National Eisteddfod was an important part of SCUNA's fundraising, until the competition heated up. I have a couple of newspaper articles and several adjudicators' reports, yet to be put online.
4The date I have for the first term concert in 1976 is Friday 30 April. The programme included Kodàly Jesus and the traders, Lassus Penitential Psalms and de Mondonville Grand Motet: Jubilate for soloists (Margaret Sim & Geoff Brennan), choir and orchestra.

7Intriguing! I checked Aicsapedia's Rob Kay Commemorative Electronic ERATO Archive. Robert must have been referring to Erato number 19 of October 1975, the last one before the date of this Oyez. It contained two SCUNA reports, one by Robert and one by Kathy Warth, plus a very good short SCUNA history - unattributed, regrettably. I couldn't see anything worrisome about any of these articles!
