A memorable gathering was held at the St Kilda Town Hall on Thursday evening last [1.3.1900], when seven members out of the nine, who hail from St Kilda, were entertained. The local patriotic committee considered it only right that there should be a send-off, but the time was very short, a telegram being received from Langwarrin only a few hours before the meeting stating the men could attend. However, there was a large and enthusiastic audience, Mr AV KEMP occupying the chair. ... Privates KNOX, GARDINER, HOWE, CAMPBELL, GARRETT, SADDLER and O'LOUGHLAN then, in response to loud calls came forward and modestly thanked the audience for the way they had received them, and trusted they would merit as hearty a reception upon their return. All present rose and sang 'For they are jolly good fellows' in a rousing style, and the singing of Rule Britannia and God Save the Queen, the meeting closed.
