URL7: The transport Norfolk, one of the neatest, cleanest, and best of the boats that have been engaged in conveying troops to and from South Africa, came to anchor off Largs Ray late on Wednesday night [30.7.1902]. In addition to several hundreds of troops for the eastern States, there were on board the undermentioned South Australians - OFFICERS - Captain W DE PASSEY, Captain and Adjutant EA ROBERTS, Captain AE COLLINS DSO, Surgeon- Captain JERMYN, Lieutenant EO THORN, Lieutenant HLSB OGILVY, Lieutenant CFM JOHNSON, Lieutenant FC SIEKMAN, Lieutenant PH PRIESTLY.

Rev. J MCINERNEY (chaplain) and 414 of other ranks. 4th Battalion Commonwealth Horse - Major PATTERSON and Captain COLLINS and 54 of other ranks.
URL9: Leave of absence, without salary, has been granted to Mr. FC SIEKMANN, clerk to the City Coroner; Mr. WD CARTER, clerk in the Public Supply Department; and Mr. Harold E ELPHIC, dispenser at the Mount Gambier Hospital; during their absence on service with his Majesty's troops in South Africa.
URL10: Lieut. FC SIEKMANN (line drawing) is, a native of Saddleworth. He was a member of the fourth (bushmen's) contingent, and served under Col. J ROWELL CB as quartermaster-sergeant, until March, 1901, when he was invalided home from Pretoria. His comrades consider that but for his unfortunate illness SIEKMANN would have certainly been advanced in rank while on the field. Before leaving for South Africa with the bushmen Lieut. SIEKMANN was employed in the Audit and Coroner's Offices. He was associated in the former with the late Capt. HIPWELL, and also served with that officer in the mounted rifles. On his return from Africa he resumed duty at the coroner's office, and has now been given further leave of absence from his employment there.
