URL2: Sir Alfred Milner cabled yesterday [6.6.1900] that Private Henry James SMART of the Second Victorian Contingent, died at Kroonstad on 3.6.1900 from enteric fever. Deceased formerly carried on business as a blackmnith at Ararat Vic., and was unmarried.
URL3: ENTERiC FEVER VICTIMS. LONDON, Friday [8.6.1900]. The following deaths have occurred among the Australian troops on active service in South Africa from enteric fever - Trooper LD TUNKS, New South Wales Lancers; died at Kroonstad. Trooper GL HARDY, South Australian Mounted Infantry, died at Bloemfontein. Trooper HJ SMART, Victorian Mounted Infantry, died at Kroonstad. We are informed that it is Trooper A WHITNEY (No. 829), of the Parramatta Lancers, and not Trooper WH WHITNEY, of Lismore, who is dangerously ill at the front.
