URL1: 1967 letter from RSL on behalf of widow in Rockhampton Qld., invalided from Pretoria with enteric aboard 'Orient' after 3 months in hospital, arrived Brisbane 16.1.1901 with 3" leg ulcer, discharged 23.1.1901.

URL5: Private SPURWAY, of the first Queensland contingent, who is among the troopers reported missing in South Africa, was at one time a police constable at Townsville. He was subsequently stationed at Halifax and elsewhere in North Queensland. During his connection with the force in North Queensland he became extremely popular with his colleagues, and bears an excellent reputation.

URL7: there were five Queenslanders who had been taken prisoners at Sannaspost. These were released at Pretoria [c6.6.1900]. They were Sergeant BREYDON, Privates JOHNSON, WEIKE, SPURWAY and STAINES. A private letter says concerning them - "Their ration of 1 lb. of meat and a limited amount of mealie meal per week has reduced them considerably".
