URL6: Veteran Light Horseman, Brigadier RM STODART, commanding officer of the 1st Cavalry Brigade, has been placed on the retired list c4.1940. ... Brigadier Stodart, who is 60, was first comissioned at the age of 18, when he was with the Queensland Mounted Infantry. He fought in the Boer War with the Australian Light Horse and was promoted to captain in 1903 and major in 1908. He entered the Great War as a major with the 2nd Light Horse, and became the unit's commanding officer as lieutenant-colonel. He was appointed to command of the 1st Cavalry Brigade in 1931. Brigadier Stodart's last active service with the 1st Cavalry Brigade, the largest cavalry brigade in Australia, was to control the highly successful three months' training period which finished last week-end after a lone trek from Beaudesert to Caboolture.
