On Saturday afternoon [22.8.1903] His Excellency the Governor presented South African war medals to members of the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth South Australian Contingents, and a distinguished conduct medal to Lce.-Cpl. J BERRY. The ceremony took place at Montefiore Hill. There was a muster of 11 officers and 120 NCO's and men of the three contingents, who were paraded with 41 officers and 588 other members of the active forces and the Highland Company in review order. ... The following non-commissioned officers and men received medals - Fourth Contingent; Sgts. LUCKETT and MILLER, Cpl. SMITH, Lce-Cpl. HAYDON, Tprs. COMLEY, HYMAN, HENLEY, SIEBER, DOLLEY, PAYNTER, CROFT, ALFRED, THOMPSON, and NORMAN, Qmr.-Sgts. COULTER and PILLEFEANT, Sgts. JT JONES, CHAMPION and DG JONES, Cpls. JOHNSON and DELAINE, Tprs. DOODY, FISHER, HERRIMAN, JAMES, THOMPSON, WRIGHT, WICKENS, WILSON, and EDWARDS.
