Murray: Lieutenant Colonel, wounded at Magersfontein, ADC to Commander in Chief, Mentioned in Despatches London Gazette 8 & 16.2.1901 CMG Queen's South Africa medal and 4 clasps.

Colonel BYRON, who went to South Africa as a special service officer from Queensland, and was afterwards appointed an aide de camp to Lord Roberts ... Colonel BYRON will act as extra aide de camp.

URL9: The Federal Staff Officers who accompanied Major-General HUTTON to Queensland [c20.5.1902] have all seen service in South Africa. Lieutenant-Colonel BYRON CMG, was a Queensland special service officer, and was on the Staff of Lord ROBERTS during tbe campaign. Lieutenant-Colonel BAYLY was a special service officer from New South Wales, was Staff Officer at Belmont, and afterwards on the Staff of Lieutenant-General Lord METHUEN. Captain NEISIGH was also one of the officers sent from the mother State and served during the first twelve months of the war.
