West Australian: Despatch dated 19.5.1901 near Carolina, Mentioned in Despatches for assisting BELL FW at Brakpan.

URL3: Captain and Brevet-Major John CAMPBELL, who has a valuable property near the Chapman State Farm, has been appointed to the expeditionary forces, and will go into Blackboy Camp WA next week [c6.1916]. Major CAMPBELL has already seen active service during the Boer War. He was a subaltern in the First WA Contingent and subsequently commanded the 6th Contingent, receiving the Queen's Medal with four clasps, and King's Medal with two clasps. He was mentioned in London despatches, and was promoted to Brevet-Major for his services in Africa.
URL5: Captain J CAMPBELL, who commanded the Sixth Contingent in South Africa, has [c7.1902] been appointed Instructional Staff Officer for Mounted Infantry in this State [WA]. He will also act as paymaster for the forces.
URL6: Captain J CAMPBELL, who has been camp adjutant at Karrakatta, since his return from South Africa with the Sixth Contingent, has resumed his duties in the Defence Department, as chief clerk in the office at headquarters.
